Position: Research Scientist in Bioinformatics

Description: We are seeking a highly-motivated bioinformatics researcher to lead data analysis efforts related to genome and metagenome sequencing in host and host-free ecosystems. The work is collaborative with colleagues at Universidad Andrés Bello’s Center for Bioinformatics and Integrative Biology.


  • The researcher will be involved in the development of pipelines for taxonomic and functional profiling of metagenomic samples. 
  • Analyze a variety of metagenomic data from a diversity of studies in environment health and agriculture.


  • PhD in a relevant discipline (Computer Science, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Biological Sciences, Biotechnology)
  • Experience in pipeline development (e.g., with deployment in AWS) and metagenome data analysis. 
  • An understanding of statistics is essential (multivariate models; machine learning).
  • Experience with DNA and RNA extraction and sequencing is useful but not essential.
  • Strong quantitative background and good programming skills (R, Python/Perl, SQL) are all required (Java, C++ are a plus).
