Mónica Alandete, Ph.D.

Monica was born in Valencia, Spain, where she earned a degree in biochemistry from the University of Valencia in 1999. Later, she completed a master's degree at Sussex University, and a doctorate degree from the University of Nottingham, both in England, specializing in plant biotechnology and molecular genetics of plants. Between 2006 and 2009, she completed two postdoctoral positions at the Berkeley and Davis campuses of the University of California, where she published her research in leading scientific journals such as Science and Development. 

In 2009, Monica began working at UC Davis - PIPRA (Public Intellectual Property Resources for Agriculture). Her team provides reports on the freedom to operate, diligence of patents in the area of ​​biotechnology, agriculture and energy to non-profit organizations and both public and private institutions. 

Currently, Monica is the Director of Analyses and Outreach of PIPRA, where she handles the strategic management and implementation of a platform of activities that supports training programs on intellectual property and technology transfer, aimed at research institutions in countries with emerging economies.

Monica also organizes international "Licensing Academy" courses at UC Davis, and in Mexico, which seek to promote innovation through intellectual property management and technology transfer. In addition, she is a Patent Agent, registered to practice in the Patent Office of the United States. Registration: # 73260
