Fellowship Program

UC Davis Chile, in its efforts to strengthen capacities that accelerate the development of applied research and innovation in the Chilean agricultural-food business and in the environmental sector, has identified key collaborating researchers and professionals that participate in activities directly managed by the center. We propose recognize these collaborators as “UC Davis Chile Fellows” with the goal of forming and strengthening a network of researchers and professionals linked to the center.

University Andres Bello

Eduardo Castro

Director of the Microbial Genomics Lab at University Andrés Bello. Eduardo obtained his B.Sc. in biochemistry from the University of Santiago (Chile) and his Ph.D. from The George Washington University (US). MIT Technology Review recognized Eduardo as one out of 35 innovators under 35 in Latin America in 2016. In his short career, he has managed to secure funds in excess of a million US dollars from agencies, such as NSF and the Chilean National Commission for Scientific and Technological Research (Conicyt).

Juan Cury

Agronomist from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. He has more than 20 years of experince in field administration and supply in companies such as Agroindustrial Frutos del Maipo Ltda. and Francisco Valdés y Cia. Ltda. Juan joined to VSPT Wine Group as the Agricultural and Supply Assistant Manager in 2002. Two years later he assumed the position of Manager of these areas, his current position. Juan is UC Davis Chile’s liaison with VSPT Wine Group.

Pontifical Catholic University of Chile

Daniel Garrido

Daniel currently serves as professor of the Department of Engineering Chemistry and Bioprocess from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. Doctor in Food Science with Designated Emphasis in Biotechnology, UC Davis. Postdoc in microbial genomics, also at UC Davis. Engineer in Molecular Biotechnology from Faculty of Sciences, University of Chile. Professor Garrido is part of the UC Davis Chile’s Scientific and Industry Advisory Board.

University Andres Bello

Claudio Meneses

Researcher for the Center of Plant Biotechnology at Universidad Andrés Bello. Agronomist from the University of Chile with a Ph.D. in agricultural, forestry and food systems (genetics mention) from the Universitat de Lleida-CRAG (Spain). Claudio works with genetics, genomics and bioinformatic tools to identify genetic markers associated with quality traits in fruits. Professor Meneses is one the PIs for UC Davis Chile’s “Genetic Identification of Clones for Grapevine” research line.

University of Talca

Yerko Moreno

Agronomist from the Catholic University of Valparaiso (1988), Ph.D. from the University of Oregon, USA (1993). His specialty is the physiology of the vine and viticulture. Director of the Technological Center of Vine and Wine at the University of Talca. In parallel to his work as a researcher, he has developed various academic activities. Yerko has published two books and several. In 2016, Yerko was elected as the “Annual Personality” by the Wine National Association of Chile. Professor Moreno is UC Davis Chile’s liaison with the University of Talca.
